Paul Jones, an Assembly candidate, has been a California resident since 1973, following his return from school in Arizona. He was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps in 1970 at Camp Pendleton, California.
Paul Jones is the eldest of four children. His parents, Mary and Irving, were born in Knoxville, Tennessee, and grew up together since age 6. They married at ages 16 and 17, moving to Chicago's South Side, one of the city's poorest areas.
Mary turned 17 in December and gave birth to Paul in November of that year, becoming a young mother. Following Paul were his brother Robert (deceased in 2022), sister Sheila, and youngest brother Carl.
Paul attended Lindbloom High School on the South Side, graduating in January 1966. Just four months later, he and seven friends enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.
In 1967, on his 18th birthday, Paul and his friends arrived in Southeast Asia and were stationed at Phu Bai with the 3rd Marines. He spent 23 months in combat, wounded in 1968 but returned to duty. Paul returned to the United States in 1969 during a turbulent time for America and is a rated disabled veteran due to his combat service in Vietnam.
After his military service, Paul worked as a studio driver for Local 399, driving for studios and actors in film and television. He also appeared on camera in movies like "Forrest Gump," "True Lies," and "Terminator," among others.
Transitioning careers, Paul became a certified computer instructor for grades K through 5 with LAUSD for 11 years. He later worked as a contract computer instructor for the City of Carson, CA, focusing on senior citizens' computer education for 9 years until funding ended.
Paul retired and pursued a study of politics. In 2022, he ran for Congress in California's 44th Congressional District, gaining valuable political experience despite lacking campaign funding and ultimately losing to the incumbent.
Now, Paul is seeking election to the California State Assembly for an open seat in District 62, encompassing Huntington Park, South Gate, Lynwood, Paramount, Bellflower, and Lakewood—where Paul and his family have resided for the past 23 years.
Paul is dedicated to his community and ready to advocate for the people of California, drawing on his past dedication to serving his country.
